Big Red

Well I have a lot of catching up to do.....a lady I serve with in the Young Women's program gave Spencer a shaving kit for his Baptism gift. Spencer thought this was so cool! He voluntarily jumped in the tub and got right to work. Because seriously how fun it is to pretend like you're shaving. I know I did when I was a kid!

Here's a Spencer highlight. In Art class at school the kids were given an assignment of drawing 3 ballerinas. The entire 2nd grade participated and out of the entire grade 3 students, (one from each class) were chosen to display their drawing at the Richland High School Art Gallery. Well Spencer brought home a letter saying he had been chosen and we were to come to a small reception in the kids' honor for being such great artists. Rob and I were rather surprised. I mean we know he's talented but had no idea he was an artist. And the fact that they were ballerinas made us laugh a bit, but Spencer was very clear in explaining that he HAD to draw them and had no other choice. We thought that was pretty cool.

Now on to Scouts. This is Spencer's first year of Scouts and he recently passed off some requirements and received his Bobcat badge. Growing up with all girls puts me at a bit of a disadvantage....I have no clue about the Scouting Program, but he's enthusiastic and it seems to keep him busy in something worthwhile, so we'll keep at it. And not too long ago was the Pinewood Derby. This was awesome. Rob had been talking to Spencer about it for some time and after watching the Olympics on tv, Spencer decided he wanted to carve his piece of wood into the shape of a bobsled. (how cool right?) So for 3 or 4 weeks, Spencer and Rob worked on making his car. Spencer was able to cut it out by himself with some power tools and did most of the work. Rob helped and I must say may have enjoyed himself even more than Spencer. The Bobsled turned out great and my own contribution to the car was finding 4 lego men with helmets off Craigslist to complete the look. Spencer was so proud of his car and really worked hard on making it. His car ran pretty fast....and took 2nd overall with winning the coveted "Judges Choice" Award. I wonder what kind of car he'll make next year?

That is one of the coolest pine wood derby cars I've seen! Congrats on 2nd place!
