For the Love of a New Game

Welcome to my new obsession. TENNIS. I love tennis. I started taking lessons a month ago, and I just can't get enough. It is so much fun. It's incredibly challenging, and so much to learn. I had no idea it was so hard. It's actually been quite humbling. I thought that I'd catch on quick and it'd be easy. Wrong! There are so many things to learn. All the different ways you have to learn how to hold the racquet, different techniques in hitting, punching, slicing, and placing the ball. Where you want to aim, the concept of where you are at on the court, and how to play doubles, and on and on it goes. I'm playing in a women's league right now and it's so much fun. I always play with someone new and there's quite a range of skill. There's women my age all the way up to some cute grandma's that can school me all over the court. And I mean that. There's a cardio tennis class I used to go to and a lady, Bonnie, was I don't know mid 60's, possibly older, and she was text book tennis. Everything was deliberate and accurate. It's amazing to watch that kind of talent play. So with all this love, I am now faced with which racquet to buy. This is not an easy decision. There are lots of things to consider and you basically have to test them all out. I have found one I love, which is fairly reasonable, and it has my name on it. I'm not sure how long I'm going to have to wait for it, but I'm hoping I can scrap up the funds quickly. I'm tired of having to borrow a racquet each time I play, plus the grips are a little bit big, because I have small hands.
Any of you out there play? I highly recommend it!

My spinning partner, Jackie, used to play tennis for Utah State...maybe I should hit her up for some lessons. It sounds fun!

I think it's great that you've found something new to learn and do! I hope you are able to buy yourself a racket soon!

I took a tennis class down at Southern Utah. My method was to hook up with the 6' 8" guy that played basketball so he could guard the net. Then I could run laps in the back and never have to show my back hand! Highly recomend it! I loved tennis, so much fun and such a workout! I could never play singles! So out of shape!

sounds like you have really gotten into this tennis thing. impressive! good luck on getting the racket you want. do you wear the cute tennis skirts when you play?

Leslie, of course I show off my sexy white legs with my cute tennis skirts. Not! hello, do you even know your own sister. I wear shorts with pockets and it works just fine. Capris work too, so thus far I have not had to wear the skirts, and I probably never will. I'll probably live to eat my words someday, but I hope it's far off.

I think tennis would mess up my racquetball! I love that you've found something you love... and you'll be schooling everyone in a month or two! How fun... and I want to see those sexy white legs and your tennis skirt!
